There are two separate electrical exams, a low voltage systems
contractor, and an elecitrical contractor. The California Contractor
License Board defines them as:
C-7 – Low Voltage Systems Contractor
A communication and low voltage contractor installs, services and
maintains all types of communication and low voltage systems which
are energy limited and do not exceed 91 volts. These systems include,
but are not limited to telephone systems, sound systems, cable television
systems, closed-circuit video systems, satellite dish antennas,
instrumentation and temperature controls, and low voltage landscape
lighting. Low voltage fire alarm systems are specifically not included
in this section.
C10 – Electrical Contractor
An electrical contractor places, installs, erects or connects any
electrical wires, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways, conduits,
solar photovoltaic cells or any part thereof, which generate, transmit,
transform or utilize electrical energy in any form or for any purpose.
The Electrical exam is divided into eight major sections. These
sections are Cost Estimation, Technical Project Management, Evaluation
of Electrical Systems, Troubleshooting Principles, Equipment and
Material Installation, Design of Electrical Systems, Safety, and
Project Coordination.
With more than 280,000 active California contractor license issued,
the California Contractors State License Board receives more than
20,000 applications for new licenses each year. Construction is
one of the largest industries in California's diverse economy.
Besides granting contractor licenses, the California Contractors
State License Board also handles construction-related complaints.
Our contractors license course is comprehensive and covers all areas
of contractor services, allowing you to avoid common errors.
The State of California does not recognize contractor licenses
issued by other states. However, California does have reciprocal
agreements with some states that recognize the experience qualifications
for certain trades. If you have trade experience or a contractor
license issued by another state or country and you want to contract
for work in California, this experience may be acceptable. But you
must apply for and be issued a contractor license by the California
Contractors State License Board.
Our contractor study course covers all areas necessary to pass
the CSLB including the Law and Business examination. And we guarantee
that you will pass the California electricians license test.
